This unique food hall and truck park offers a diverse selection of delicious food and a lively atmosphere. Inside, it features a cozy food hall with a variety of food, coffee, and desserts. Outside, there’s a rotating lineup of Metro Detroit’s most popular food trucks and a spacious courtyard – the perfect place to eat, relax, and connect with friends and family.
For this project, I aimed to create an inviting and dynamic environment that caters to both food enthusiasts and social gatherings. The indoor space is designed to be cozy and comfortable, encouraging patrons to linger and enjoy the diverse culinary offerings. We incorporated warm lighting, comfortable seating, and thoughtful decor to create a welcoming atmosphere.
The outdoor area, with its spacious courtyard, is designed to be vibrant and adaptable, accommodating different food trucks and events. We included aluminum seating to create a relaxing space for people to unwind and socialize throughout the year. The layout is flexible, allowing for easy changes in the food truck lineup and providing a fresh experience for visitors each time they come.
Overall, my goal was to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal, ensuring that THE CANTEEN AT MIDTOWN is not just a place to eat, but a community hub where people can connect and enjoy a diverse range of culinary delights.
My role in this project was comprehensive and included several key responsibilities:
Site Visits and Measurements: I regularly visited the site to ensure accurate measurements and made necessary modifications to the floor and furniture plans to accommodate the space's unique requirements.
Layout Design: I meticulously worked on the layout of the project, ensuring optimal flow and functionality for both the indoor and outdoor areas.
Client Interaction and Follow-ups: I maintained close communication with the client through various follow-up meetings to ensure the layout was finalized before proceeding to the material and furniture selection phase.
Presentation and Concept Development: I created comprehensive presentations that included mood images, material selections, and color palettes. These presentations helped visualize the design concept and facilitated decision-making.
3D Renderings: After the initial approval of the design concept, I developed detailed 3D renderings to showcase the agreed-upon design for both the interior and exterior spaces.
Modifications and Refinements: Based on feedback from our meetings and discussions about the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the space, I made necessary modifications to the design.
Bill of Quantities: A crucial aspect of my role was preparing a detailed bill of quantities. This document included every material and piece of furniture required for the project. For each item, I specified the source, provided a price estimate, and included comprehensive details such as:
Materials: Flooring, wall finishes, lighting fixtures, and other construction materials.
Furniture: Seating, tables, counters, and other furnishings.
Accessories: Decorative items, signage, and other aesthetic elements.
The bill of quantities provided a clear and organized breakdown of costs, ensuring transparency and facilitating budgeting. It also included a total project cost estimate for all materials and furniture, giving the client a clear understanding of the financial scope of the project.
Final Presentation and Project Approval: I prepared a formal presentation that encompassed the entire project, including the selection of all materials and furniture, accompanied by the detailed bill of quantities.
Ongoing Site Follow-up: I continuously visited the site to oversee the progress, ensuring the implementation of the design, and selected the remaining accessories to complete the project.
Throughout the project, my goal was to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal, ensuring that THE CANTEEN AT MIDTOWN is not just a place to eat but a vibrant community hub where people can connect and enjoy a diverse range of culinary experiences.
